A Guest Bathroom Renovation: The Plan

July 24, 2017

Using wood tones, brass fixtures, and lots of marble, our guest bathroom is getting a modern refresh.

Our guest bathroom has always been one of the first to-do’s on our renovation list. We love welcoming friends from the city, and I love creating a bed & breakfast vibe for them to enjoy themselves while visiting us on the ranch. However, our guest bathroom posed a significant problem to this because it did not work. Like, at all. Not only was it terribly ugly, but the sink had completely broken, and the shower refused to turn off. Not to mention, the pink tile, ivory toilet, and rusting faucet were total eye sores.

When we first moved here, we purchased the vanity for the bathroom a bit prematurely. It was on supersale at RH, and I couldn’t resist it. Jumping the gun, I purchased the darker stain rather than their natural color. I suppose my tastes have changed over the past three years because when I opened the vanity up, I was very surprised that I would’ve ever purchased the dark colored vanity. {If I had a do-over, this vanity is really speaking to me.}

We measured the vanity size to fit directly where the old vanity sat; however, once we stripped the bathroom down, it became apparent that we could’ve moved the toilet to sit under the window, and placed a smaller vanity beside it, opening up the space a bit. It was too late to change the plans, but I suppose I am telling you this as a lesson in case you are delving into a renovation – you can move things around to create a more functional space for your home.

After opening up the vanity, I decided I would play off the dark tones from the wood stain and go with a moody light with lots of brass mixed in. The vanity came with a beautiful marble top, so I opted for lots of marble in different shades and shapes: herringbone shower walls, and a hexagon floor.

I cannot wait to share the reveal with you, as well as the ups and downs of tiling and finishing the space. Until then, here is the plan and links to the products.
