I recently heard a fact that we sleep on average 2 hours longer during the colder months. While we might not necessarily need more rest, our circadian rhythm learns to adjust with the light of nature. It’s amazing that our bodies just know how to lean into the cadence of nature – proof of how interconnected we are with the universe.
The exchange between us and nature is one that becomes more apparent as we grow older and as the months become darker. I like to think of the sun as the charger for us – allowing us to be more active during summer, and allowing us to turn inward, allowing rest.
As we’ve evolved, we have conditioned ourselves to maintain a busy life during the colder months. More often than not, due to the holidays, the darker months tend to be the most stressful. However, when looking at nature, these months should be a time of reflection, rest, and care for ourselves. A bear does not go against his practice of hibernation, and a tree knows when it must stop expending its energy and let its leaves fall.
Intuitively, we also know when it’s time to take pause. Rather than pushing through, this winter, I encourage you to rest. To take care of yourself. This looks different for each of us, but for me, I know it will look like more time spent with my animals, more time reading, and less time using energy in unhelpful ways.
Places for Rest
Leaning into rest requires spaces that embody that feeling. I love spaces that are soft, elegant, and still home-y.
A Comfortable Occasion
I love a good party and I love getting dressed up, and this holiday season, I am loving a more relaxed look that is effortless and comfortable.
Overcoat Obsessions
A good coat is a make-or-break factor in any outfit. I’m deciding between a shorter coat or classic camel for this winter, but maybe I could just do both?
