DIY Cocktail Kit

Filled with dried fruit, sugar, seasonal spices, and packaged with a pretty bow, this DIY cocktail kit is one of the easiest ways to gift more thoughtfully this season. Beautiful and affordable, this gift also makes a wonderful host gift for any holiday party!

Making cocktails at home is one of my favorite ways to bring everyone together for a good time and always feels a bit more special than just opening a bottle of wine. I always love having a welcome cocktail and a nightcap to finish off each dinner party, and this is a perfect way for my friends to get a “signature” cocktail from me, that they can easily make at home themselves.

Ingredients for DIY Cocktail Kit

  • Cinnamon Sticks: Cinnamon adds a subtle amount of warmth that really makes this kit perfect for the holidays.
  • Dried Orange Slices: I like to dehydrate my own in the oven, but you can always just get them from the store!
  • Dried Apple Slices: As with the dried orange slices, I like to dehydrate my own. Bonus: This is a great way to use up all those apples from your apple tree!
  • Whole Cloves: Cloves add another layer of aromatics
  • Allspice: This is optional but pairs so well with the cinnamon and clove.
  • Brown Sugar Cubes: A little sweetness goes a long way when infusing your favorite liquor!
  • 16 oz Canning Jar: The cutest vessel for your kit.

How Does It Work?

When your recipient is ready to make their infused liquor, they’ll simply add in their liquor of choice to the jar and let it infuse over the course of three days.

Once the liquor is infused, they’ll give it a shake, strain, and enjoy in any beverage of their choice!

Each kit allows for two infusions for 8-16 delightful drinks.

More handmade Gift Ideas to Love

If you’re looking for even more lovely handmade gift ideas to try this season, be sure to check out our stovetop potpourri (the #1 recipe on my site!). I also love the homemade rosemary salt, candied almonds, homemade peppermint bark, and chocolate covered marshmallows! Which is your favorite?

What Is the Best Alcohol to Infuse?

Typically, more neutral spirits like vodka are the best to infuse because you’re able to really taste the flavors. However, for this particular recipe, vodka or a whiskey would be perfect! Gin would also make this infusion even more wintery.

How to Store

Because the ingredients are all dry ingredients this kit will keep in the pantry up to several months.

Can I Substitute or Add Other Ingredients?

The great thing about a DIY Cocktail Kit is that you’re able to add in any ingredient of your choice (just make sure its dried!) to make this even more of a special gift. If you know your friends like or dislike particular flavors, feel free to add them in, or vice versa, omit them from the jar.

  3. Hello,
Love this idea for a DYI Cocktail kit. Since, i do not drink, can I have some clarification. It says this majes 2 infusions for 8-16 drinks. Does this mean every infusion makes (8) 2 oz drinks. Do you then pour it into a glass of vodka or whiskey? If so, how many ounces of the hard liquor? Could you also use wine. Thank you so much!!! Want to make sure I have it right.
